Yi Wen is a photographer currently based in Thailand, whose figurative work explores the enduring legacy of the human form in art history. His practice has taken him across Japan and the northeastern United States, developing a visual language rooted in classical aesthetics while engaging contemporary cultural contexts.
Drawing inspiration from the sculptural traditions of ancient Greece and Rome, as well as the compositional sensibilities of Renaissance and Baroque painting, Yi Wen approaches photography as a continuation of the classical study of form. Echoes of Art Deco, particularly the sculptural clarity of Paul Manship, and elements of Surrealism inform the atmosphere and structure of his images.
Beyond formal considerations, his work reflects an interest in the cultural expressions that shape identity and environment. Music, dance, fashion, and the lived relationship between body and space become integral components within his compositions. Through these layered references, Yi Wen constructs images that situate the human figure within both historical continuity and contemporary life.
His photographs document individuals across diverse regions, capturing moments of presence, ritual, and celebration while maintaining a dialogue with art history.
